Our story

Our company

EngineAir Pty Ltd was established on 9th September 2000 with the objective to perform research and development on an innovative air motor design, invented and first tried by Angelo Di Pietro in 1997.

In the first 10 years the company focused on developing prototype models to test the concept and understand the performance characteristics. During this period additional prototypes were tested, showing improving performance, power to weight ratio and air consumption. Current development shows performance and efficiency to be considerable superior over state-of-the-art engine technology.

Consequently, the technology has been fitted to diverse mobile applications, proving its feasibility. Based on these results the company is now entering commercialization of its technology.

Our founder

Angelo Di Pietro, (1950, Avellino, Italy) qualified as Congegnatore Meccanico in Avellino and then moved to Stuttgart, Germany to work on the Wankel rotary engine at the Mercedes Benz research laboratories 1969 and 1970. In 1971 he migrated to Australia where he established a construction engineering company.

From his early experience with Wankel rotary engines, Angelo became interested in developing a more efficient engine than the traditional reciprocating internal combustion engine, and he has worked on various alternative concepts intermittently over the last 30 years.

In 1999 he made a major design breakthrough. Recognizing the potential of his invention Mr Di Pietro decided to fully focus on the development of the new motor concept.
Our awards
GE Imagination at work
In 2013 we were one of the five winners in GE’s first Australia/New Zealand ecomagination challenge.

“The five ecomagination Challenge Innovation Award winners share common characteristics,” Ben Waters, Director of ecomagination, GE Australia & New Zealand, said.

“They are passionate about finding new and better ways of approaching challenges, have identified key opportunities to increase efficiency and carbon productivity, and have acted to make these opportunities a reality.”
 The New Inventors
The New Inventors was an Australian television program, that was broadcast on ABC1.

Each episode featured three Australian inventions that were judged by six criteria: originality, need, safety, design, market and marketability, and manufacture and pricing.

Each invention was given time to present its use, economic viability, purpose and niche. The inventors were then queried by a panel of three judges.

The Di Pietro engine was selected as that episodes winner.
Frost & Sullivan Award
Frost & Sullivan recognised top companies in Australia at the annual Australia Excellence Awards.

The recipients of the annual Frost & Sullivan Australia Excellence Awards were identified based on in-depth research conducted by Frost & Sullivan's analysts. The award categories offered each year are carefully reviewed and evaluated to reflect the current market landscape and include new emerging trends.

EngineAir received the award for Excellence in Technology.
